Other Than

Other Than
by Mia Jo Celeste
Genre: Gaslamp fantasy/Paranormal Historical Romance/Dystopia

It only takes one drink from the Water of Immortality to kill Evie Woods—halfway. Trapped in undead flesh, the world’s last skin-slider wakens on an island purgatory where a cursed spring bubbles with immortality, and zombie cannibals crave living flesh. Her only hope of escape rests in the hands of the one man who would see her fail. Lord Victor Lowell, the man of her dreams and darkest nightmares. Contrary and intractable, Victor preys on others to maintain his angelic charisma and preternatural prowess.

Trapped in an ever escalating war they can’t stop, Victor and Evie fight time for a cure, but as the long days pass, blackness tears at Evie, ripping her thoughts from her one memory at a time. Victor will do whatever it takes to prevent her from deteriorating into a rotting husk, even if it means dooming himself, but Evie won’t surrender his soul without a fight.

Mia Jo Celeste comes from a family of writers and English teachers, so it was no surprise when she chose to pursue both careers. She grew up watching horror movies and reading romances. To her, the two genres go together like salty and sweet in kettle corn.

A Colorless Blue

A Colorless Blue
by M.W. Muse
Genre: YA Romance

I have everything. Rich parents, popular friends, and a hot boyfriend, even if he is a selfish ass. I may not realize the irony my charmed life represents—that what is considered a conventional lifestyle for rich kids also makes me a cliché. A colorless caricature of the snobbiest stereotypes—but I don’t need to understand that to fit in. So yeah, besides dealing with my infuriating boyfriend and blending in with my snobby friends, my life is perfect … Until the day I can’t stop bleeding and that shell of a charmed life shatters in the wake of my new reality.

When I think about having everything now, I have to include leukemia. Because I have it, and it's killing me.

Wanting the best care for me, my parents send me to a treatment hospital, away from my friends, boyfriend, even my family. I so don’t want to go, but I have no choice. The sooner I get rid of this cancer, the sooner things can be normal again. There’s a word to explain my mentality of it all. Denial. It‘s such a beautiful thing until it all comes crashing down. And does it ever. But left standing in that debris is a boy who brings color into this dying girl. A boy who is there at my lowest and teaches me what it really means to live. A boy who urges me to fight a losing battle because my death would tear him apart.

A boy who is not my boyfriend.
And a death that will find me anyway.

The Reanimation Files

The Reanimation Files
by AJ Locke
Genre: Paranormal/Ghosts/Urban Fantasy/Multicultural/Interracial/Comedy

Affairs of the Dead Book 1

Help ghosts, stop a thief, and try not to die…

Necromancer Selene Vanream helps ghosts settle their affairs so they can move on. But when breaking the rules gets her in trouble, she’s bumped down to tracking ghosts trying to avoid the afterlife. Ghosts like Ethan Lance, who claims he was kicked out of his body when someone else jumped in. Which might be plausible—if such a thing were possible. And if Micah, Selene’s partner, didn’t pull her into an investigation of brutal murders that lead directly back to Ethan.

But when the whole mess puts Selene’s life in danger, she suddenly has very personal reasons to get Ethan’s body back. Between her uncomfortable relationship with Micah, and problems with her boss, Selene learns just how much trouble it can be when you don’t follow the rules…

Requiem for the Living Book 2

Selene is slowly dying...too bad that’s the least of her problems.
You could say that Selene Vanream has a lot of problems. First there’s the Rot that’s slowly killing her, despite everything Ilyse and Micah are doing to find a way to save her.
Then there’s Andrew, the ghost of her boss who is anchored to the living world. Selene would like to ignore him, but anchored ghosts with unsettled business turn into anchored beasties, so she can’t write him off. The government has sent a team to post up at Affairs of the Dead and keep an eye on her, which includes making sure she plays up to Andrew to keep him from turning.
On top of that, someone is using Selene’s new power to create anchored ghosts for their loved ones to keep around. Not good since the culprit doesn’t have a clue about that whole anchored beastie angle. Now Selene has a criminal to catch while trying to stay out of the hands of government goons who have stripping her reanimation power on their agenda.

When Micah and Ilyse finally find a way to save her, Selene thinks she can cross one bad thing off her list--until she learns the terrible price that must be paid to keep her alive. Full plate doesn’t cover it. Overflowing plate doesn’t cover it. Selene’s plate has damn near exploded.

The Ravaging In Between Book 3

Sometimes death is only the beginning...

Selene Vanream died—for two minutes. After being revived, she spends over a month in a coma before she awakes, free from the Rot and the reanimation power that caused her so much trouble. No one can explain how Selene survived killing Renton while he possessed her reanimation power, and her reunion with Micah is marred by the choices they each made to save her and stop Renton.

But even though she's Rot free, she isn't problem free. First, she no longer has a job at Affairs of the Dead. And Ethan is missing and she can't track him down. Not only that, ghosts that were sent to the Afterlife with unfinished business have somehow crossed back and are trying to settle the score in violent ways. If that wasn't enough, Selene discovers that dying briefly has more consequences than she realized, because when she was revived, not all of her came back. Now she's straddling both the living world and the dead, and she will find out what it means to come back to life but leave part of her soul behind.

A Torment of Savages Book 4

When your soul isn't your own, you'll do anything to get it back.

After months of danger and deadly threats, Selene Vanream finally has some much needed downtime and a chance to focus on mending her relationship with Micah. She’s even accepted a job working for The Paranormal Control Center to quietly resolve issues within the paranormal community. After the supernatural devastation New York City's been through, quiet resolutions are best.

But peace can't last forever. As Selene and Kyo's ghost embark on the search for Kyo's body, Selene finds out firsthand the violent lengths the dead witches are willing to go to in order to keep their secrets safe. What's more, a new, dark and deadly being has emerged from the In Between and is turning people into darkness-filled Savages intent on reaping souls until she gets the soul she’s really owed–Selene's. This new evil is determined to get what she was promised, but not before innocent people pay the price, including someone very near to Selene’s heart.

Now all Selene has to do is find out how her life became a bargaining chip to a psychotic monster, keep the ones she loves from danger, and make sure her soul isn't ripped from her body and dragged to hell in the process. Some girls have all the fun.

A.J. Locke is originally from Trinidad and Tobago but has resided in New York City for over ten years. She knew early on that she wanted to be a writer, penned her first novel at fourteen, and hasn’t stopped since. Creating is her passion, and other than writing she enjoys drawing, painting, graphic design, and any other creative whim that may take her.

Feeling Some Type of Way

Feeling Some Type of Way
by Vera Roberts
Genre: New Adult Romance

Every girl has that one thing she will not do. No matter how hard times get. No matter how little money she has. No matter what…there is that one thing she will refuse to do.

Ian Ferguson was that for me.

Working for one of the world’s most eligible billionaires taught me many things: I can tell the difference between BCBG and Balenciaga. I know how much mileage I can put into my Jimmy Choos before I have to get another pair. I know when Ian was in a good mood and when I should get the hell out of dodge.

Working for Ian also taught me…I can’t separate my personal feelings from our professional relationship.

Lady luck and a killer bod was on my side, though. Amateur night at the local strip club taught Ian I was no longer the desperate college student he met a few years ago, but a grown-ass woman with grown-ass needs. And honestly, I think he already knew that but never acted on it.

I just hope this experiment is worth the effort from both of us. He’s got me feeling some type of way…

Vera originally started her career on a popular fanfiction website, where she still frequently posts and supports her fellow writers. She writes romance, YA, and currently New Adult. She loves to read, is an avid walker, and loves a good episode or two of Maury.

Vera is from Palm Springs, CA and currently resides in Los Angeles, with her husband, Maks, cat Sushi, and son Bear.
